Love is often associated with emotions and relationships, but the Bible reveals a deeper and more profound understanding of love—one that reflects God’s heart for His people. Scripture speaks of different kinds of love, each displaying unique aspects of God’s character. As we reflect on these biblical expressions of love, let’s consider how they relate to our mission at Pray for Zero—to see every person receive God’s Word in their language and experience His love firsthand.
Agape: God’s Unconditional Love
Agape is the highest form of love—the unconditional, sacrificial love that God has for humanity. John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is the love that sent Jesus to the cross, the love that does not waver based on feelings or circumstances.
At Pray for Zero, our mission is driven by agape love. We long for every person to experience the fullness of God’s love through His Word. Without Scripture in their language, millions remain unaware of this life-changing truth. By praying for Bible translation, we join in God’s mission of love, ensuring that all people can know Him intimately.
Philia: Brotherly Love
Philia is the love shared between friends and fellow believers. Jesus spoke of this love when He said in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” It is a love of deep companionship, unity, and selflessness.
In our work, we see philia in action as believers around the world stand together in prayer for the completion of Bible translation. It’s a love that connects us across cultures and languages, as we lift up translators, communities, and those who have yet to receive God’s Word. This brotherly love fuels our prayers and reminds us that we are one body in Christ, working toward the same Kingdom purpose.
Storge: Family Love
Storge is the deep, protective love found within families. It reflects God’s desire for His people to belong and be cared for. Romans 12:10 encourages us to, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Just as families nurture and guide their children, God’s Word nurtures His people. But imagine growing up in a home where the Bible is not available in your language—where stories of God’s faithfulness are unknown. At Pray for Zero, we intercede for families worldwide, praying that parents can teach their children about God’s love in the language that speaks to their hearts.
Eros: A Reflection of God’s Passionate Love
While eros often refers to romantic love, it also symbolizes God’s deep, passionate love for His people. Throughout Scripture, we see God’s pursuit of His people, likened to a groom pursuing His bride (Ephesians 5:25-27). His love is not distant—it is active, relentless, and personal.
Our desire is that every person would know this love. God longs for a relationship with all people, and His Word is the means by which He speaks to them. Without access to Scripture, many do not yet realize how passionately God loves them. That’s why we pray—for zero people left without the truth of God’s Word.
A Call to Love Through Prayer
Let’s demonstrate love through prayer—lifting up those who have never heard of God’s love in their own language. Join us in praying for Bible translation efforts, for translators who tirelessly work to bring Scripture to life, and for communities waiting to receive His Word.
Because love isn’t just something to be celebrated—it’s something to be shared. And when we pray, we participate in the greatest love story ever written: God’s love for the world.
